Coming for your first appointment

If you're booking in for your first massage with me – welcome! I know trying a new therapist or therapy can sometimes feel a little uncertain, so I’ve put together this guide to help you know exactly what to expect. My aim is to create a space where you feel safe, listened to, and supported, right from the very beginning.

Before Your Appointment

Once you’ve booked, I’ll send you an email with all the important details – including the time and location of your session, cancellation and payment info, along with a link to a short consultation form. This form asks a few questions about your medical history, general wellbeing, and your reason for booking. It helps me tailor your massage to suit your needs and check for any precautions we should keep in mind.

If you have any questions or concerns before your appointment, you're always welcome to reach out for a phone call. Sometimes a quick chat in advance can help ease any nerves or clarify what you’re looking for from your appointment.

When You Arrive

We’ll start your session with a short consultation – usually just a few minutes to chat through how you're feeling on the day and what you’d like to get out of the massage (this is additional time I’ve factored in to the appointment, not taken off your treatment time). If you're dealing with any pain or discomfort, this is the perfect time to point it out. We can also do a quick postural check if that feels useful. This little catch up on the day also helps me with choosing what essential oils will support you best.

If you’ve had massages before, I’d love to hear about what you’ve enjoyed – whether that’s a particular style of massage, the kind of pressure you like, or what helps you relax most. Every body is different, and your input helps me make the session as beneficial as possible.

I’ll talk you through how the session will work and then leave the room so you can get undressed (to your level of comfort) and settled on the massage couch. You’ll be covered with a towel and blanket, and I’ll only uncover the area of the body we’re working on at the time. Your comfort is my priority – I’ve got a heated blanket, fan, and plenty of cushions and blankets available to help you feel as relaxed and supported as possible.

During the Massage

At the beginning of the session, I’ll check in with you to make sure the pressure feels good for you. However, you’re always encouraged to speak up throughout the massage – if something feels too sensitive to work on or if you’d prefer a different approach, just let me know. Massage should never be painful - I always work with your body and nervous system, not against it.

Most sessions begin and end with some gentle grounding techniques and breathing to help you settle into the space and bring your body and mind into the present moment. Soft, calming music will be playing in the background (although feel free to say if you don’t want it on!)

There’s never any pressure to talk or equally not talk. It’s your session to use however you want.

After Your Massage

Once the massage is finished, I’ll leave you to take your time getting up and ready. There’s never any rush – I want you to feel relaxed and unhurried. I’ll give you a few minutes and a gentle knock on the door before coming back in.

We’ll have some time at the end for a quick chat if you have any questions or reflections, and I can also offer recommendations if there’s anything you can do at home to support how you’re feeling.
